Brown Bess Rifle, Brown Bess Carbine

Brown Bess Rifle, Brown Bess Carbine
Brown Bess Rifle, Brown Bess Carbine

The Brown Bess was probably the most famous rifle of the Colonial period. It was a .75 calibre, muzzle loading rifled musket, and served in the British Army for over forty years until it was replaced by the .57 cal Enfield. This model is a replica of an Indian-built Bess, favoured because of its lower production cost. The second picture is of the Brown Bess carbine. It is the same rifle, only shorter.
