KPB DROTIK

KPB DROTIK

Experimental Russian select fire pistol. It was a contender for replacing the Makarov as the regulation sidearm of Russian police and army. The .9x19-Parabellum Izhmash MR443 was chosen, instead. Some of these pistols were distributed for field-testing... and never returned. Many of those are in the hands of Russian Mafia. The KPB DROTIK features a high capacity magazine (20 rounds or more) and loads the .5.45x17.8mm penetrator ammo, developed after the '60s for the PSM pistol. The DROTIK is a select-fire combat pistol, able to fire single shots or three-round bursts. Correction / added information 5/12/04 The identification in the photo does not correspond to a (AP SBZ) OTs23 “Drotik” 5,45x18 ; it is a AP SBZ too, but a OTs 33 “Pernach”, a bigger and slightly different machine pistol of 9x18 Makarov calibre. This can be verified in the pertaining sources, like A. B. Zhuk’s “Entsiklopediya Strelkovogo Oryzhiya”, pp. 449, 454, 456-7, and in “The New World of Russian Small Arms & Ammo”, by C. Cutshaw (page 68 –wrong drawing, too, for the frequently mistaked Drotik--, and page 69 for the Pernach). Hoping be useful and With best regards. Rodolfo G. Villarroel prensa@tirolimpico.org
