Current assault rifle of the italian army; the AR version is the most used by the Italian army, featuring a carrying handle, a fixed stock, AND a folding bipod placed under the barrel. There are 3 more versions of this rifle: The SC-70/90 (with FOLDING STOCK, also very used between the Italian Army). The SCS-70/90 and SCP-70/90 (both special purpose compact carbines, featuring folding stocks, while the SCP-70/90 can be equipped with a special muzzle break to shoot rifle grenades, as the M203 attaching on the 70/90 series rifles and carbines is not easy, and it is ONLY made with rifles in use with italian Police and Carabinieri). The 70/90 series rifles fire the 5'56-NATO cartridge, this time them DO HAVE the STANAG provision (them usually fit the M16-style magazines, although them may fit the BETA C-MAG). The AR-70/90 have a trigger group for Safe/Semi-Auto/ 3-Rounds Burst/ Full-autofire, while the SC-70/90, the SCS-70/90 and SCP-70/90 will only fire in Safe/ Semi-auto/ 3-rounds. The picture I'm posting to you is a VERY RARE picture of an AR-70/90 in "Tropical Version", as asked to many desert troopers. Although this rifle is not "officially" in use with the Italian Army, I noticed it in the hands of Italian desert troopers 2 or 3 years ago, during the usual military parade for July 2nd (Italian national fest, as the DAY OF THE REPUBLIC, as in 6/2/1948, after the war, with a referendum vote, italian people decided for republic and democracy instead of the Kingdom, as Italy was a kingdom until 1948). At this parade, the Italian President was present.
