The only thing is I think the Merkava could use some sloped armor on its sides. That would make it wider, but more resistant to sabots. But it could be a secondary benefit as well; a sloping side piece added as a "snap on" attachment could also be a place to store extra fuel, away from the interior of the tank and ready to be jettisonned if it were liable to light. But that's if it's diesel. On the other hand, if its built right, even if it was gasoline and blew up it might not be that big a deal; such an indirect explosion would blow the thing off the side, instead of damaging the interior.
