So here's what I was looking to do for a summer project...
I've touched up my Bushmaster and thought that this summer might be a reasonable time to build myself my own "black rifle" in .223.
I've already got go/no-go head space gauges, receiver-vice block, torque wrench, The complete AR-15 Assembly Manualand a DPMS combo tool.
I'd like for it to serve as a venerable tactical rifle...and if it weren't for cost, would prefer to chamber it for .308.
I'm looking for suggestions to be in consideration for cost-- the point to this experiment is to create a weapon capable of MOA accuracy at distance and budget.
As I see it, I can buy a new rifle with these desired parts for around 1,500+
My goal is to create a similar rifle for less than a grand.
I've got my mind set on (but not absolutely adamant about):
Chip McCormick two-stage curved trig
Magpul adjustable grip with oversized guard
Magpul adjustable precision stock
JP enterprises light contour 20" barrel w/ adjustable gasblock and heatsink.
DPMS titanium bolt carrier assembly
Vortec flash hider
G&GG flip up front and rear sights.
ATN LR7 3-9 cammed to .223
What I need suggestions for:
Boys, I could really use some input.
Yes TJ, I know I'd be better with an EBR, but i can't break my wallet entirely.
Throw in whatever else you think might be any good suggestions...besides stepping it up a caliber.
At this point, I want something I can assemble over the next six-eight months and use as a modular tactical rifle. I am not resolute to any one item, and if you can think of any bargains or better or more affordable options, my mind is open to all suggestions.
