Let's say it directly: it's not like in Italy gun ownership is "seriously seen as a right" or anything... unfortunately we don't get that far. Yet, it is not seen as a problem. "Restrictive" law proposals are announced every time that a gun tragedy happens... and then... nothing. Just a soap bubble. Luckily, we are safe... for now. Here in Italy, the risk are not restrictive laws, but the bureaucratic apparat that lives on gun regulations: the Firearms and Explosives branch of the Ministry of Interior, the Police officials tasked into approval and renewal of firearm licenses, and so on.
