That movie is going to suck, big time.
It's blasphamy. It's unrealistic. It's crap. It does to Thermopylae what "Jesus Christ, Superstar" did to the christian messiah. FOR THE LOVE OF G-D, READ STEVEN PRESSFIELDS "GATES OF FIRE" BEFORE YOU LET YOUR MIND GET TAINTED WATCHING THAT FILM!

Looks good to me...
I know a bit of Frank Miller's work, and he's not even acting like 300 is a historical narrative. There's plenty enough confusion about what precisely happened in enough points that would be nigh impossible anyway. Let's be honest, even the most reliable narratives from the time took the predictions of Delphi at face value. But the story is a legend as well, with inspiring qualities, and that's what he's showing. Which I think is aided by the film style... his film technique looks beautiful, but not quite real. This is closer to a telling of Heracles labors. And it is a legend. I have no problem with fantastic stories being forged by the actions of real people... that's how legends start. Anyway, if you want to know the precise details of Miller's story ahead of time, go grab a copy of the graphic novel that's been around a while.

Yep, your movie-makers are making a mess of ancient history. See "Troy", "Alexander", or even "The Gladiator".... may I have a

Actually, Troy dismissed the mythical aspects of our accounts of Troy and tried to do something plausible. Unless you believe that historically there was a guy who could only be killed at a weak point in his heel... It was still Hollywood, but I can hardly call any telling of Troy from Rome or earlier that was any more plausible than that.
Of course, as I said, the issue with ancient accounts is, it's hard to know with much precision what really went on at any of these. I never saw Alexander, never really cared to, but it likely was a mess. Gladiator wasn't a retelling of any history, it simply used the setting to tell a story. Like Gone with the Wind, or Forrest Gump, etc weren't really tellings of history they were just set there. I got more annoyed by things like King Arthur and A Knight's Tale. One because it purports itself as a definitive story of something we can't know (hubris) and the other because of technical issues, dumbing down, and a lot of pandering to teenagers. Other people dragged me to the theater in both cases and I didn't appreciate that they did after. ![]()
