Cool Alright, let's start it.

SIG-556 semi-automatic rifle. Any good past the SHOT Show or is it just another soap bubble?

My local FFL has two coming in sometime around late July.

It's real... I'm really interested in seeing how its magazines work out.

As for the rifle itself... the SCAR is more to my taste... But I may pick one up for the heck of it.

Why SIG had to go and make a new design is beyond me, but whatever .

Maybe because all other SIG designs (the SG-550 and SG-551) were banned from further imports/trade in the USA under laws different than the 1994 Brady Bill/AWB.
Or maybe they just thought that the mix-up between the SIG-550 and the AR-15 lookalikes would have been more likely to meet the taste of the American consumers. It's up to YOU to make them find out whether they were right or not, because there are no plans for marketing the SIG-556 outside of the USA.

I do like the fact it takes AR-15 magazines, that solves a lot of problems.

The M4 stock ability isn't a bad idea either.

The forestock bothers me... Looks like something out of Star Wars.

But I do think they should have released both a 'traditional' SIG55X and the 'ARitized' version.

Cool And since we are on the SIG rifles thread...

...here it come something to make good old ED giggle.

SIG-Manurhin Mod. CSA-MR "Carabine Semi-Automatique" selfloading rifle in .243-Winchester, 5-rounds magazine, Italian civilian market import as back as from 1983.

SIG-Manurhin Mod. FSA-MR "Fusil Semi-Automatique" selfloading rifle in .308-Winchester, 5-rounds magazine, Italian civilian market import as back as from 1983.

Oldies but goldies (10-rounds magazine versions, as 10 rounds is the max capacity accepted by law for non-smoothbore long arms down here in Italy, were available as far as from 1985). Hard to find, but whatever, if I could lay my hands on one, I'd buy it just for the sake of having one in the collection. Sure, better SIG models came out on our market later (like the semi-auto 10-rounder SG-550 which here in Italy is called the "SAN Sport Europe", and the 5-rounder but a-heck-of-accuracy SG-550 marksman version), and the .243-Winchester is a terrible round, but a SIG-Manurhin is still a SIG-Manurhin.

Not enough US parts, if I recall correctly. If SIG manufactured them here, then we could probably have 'em.

That is unfortunate, it is a great rifle if not horribly expensive. Then again there are plenty of things you can have I would go to jail for. I will save that for the politics section.
