Yep! In a sunny April day, with a box of non-military Standard ammunition (Fiocchi loaded with 55-grs "Sierra Match King" bullets, we carried our own, yet it worked like a breeze!), and plenty of targets! THAT was a day!

Beretta ARX-160 5'56x45mm SELECT-FIRE/FULL-AUTOMATIC assault rifle w/h undercarried GLX-160 grenade launcher? LOLOLOLOLOL!

NICE DREAM! Maybe one day (BERETTA seems interested to bring out a civvie version of this, but that's unofficial by now...)

That's the story: my magazine hosted and sponsored a long-range shooting competition in April, which was held in the Santa Severa shooting range, an open-field military training ground right over the sea, which happens to be the only structure in the entire Country to be able to host shooting competitions over 300 metres; the structure is normally closed to civilians, but we had things arranged with the people at the UTTAT (Ufficio Tecnico Territoriale per gli Armamenti Terrestri, "Territorial Technical Service for Ground-based Armaments", Italian Army's counterpart of the US Army Materials Command, there's one for every Region in Italy), which runs the range, to have it open to civilian competitors for three days; we have already done this in the same place for the past three years, twice a year (once in at the beginning of the Spring, once at the beginning of Winter); we know the UTTAT people personally and get along with them. For three days, we saw over 300 persons participating in 5 competition categories with everything ranging from .52-caliber muzzleloaders to Sharps replicas, from .223-Remington and .308-Winchester "Paramilitary-style" to ex-militaria (Lee-Enfield, Carl-Gustafs, Mausers, Garands), and even some big badasses with their custom-made .408-CheyTacs.

At the end of the 3rd and last day, somebody from the UTTAT (more specifically the guy in Blue Jeans, blue shirt and beret at my right in the picture; it doesn't seems like, but he's the Head Honcho at the UTTAT for the Region of Lazio) brought out this thingy. We (my magazine, I mean) had already extensively handled, fired, evaluated it for an article, but since we had some boxes of Fiocchi .223-Remington special Long-Range Match commercial ammunition left (loaded with 55grs Sierra Match King" bullets), why don't give it another try just for the sake of it?

The gun literally worked like a breeze. Too bad we had no 40mm around to fire the GLX. BTW, the ARX-160 gets rid of the 3-rds burst option, has only semi and full, and I see why: you don't need a controlled burst option; just set it on full, caress the trigger like you would do with a beautiful woman, and you'll be able to send out 2-rds, 3-rds, even 4-rds bursts, perfectly controllable and perfectly on target. Even on full-auto, and I really mean FULL-auto, it's TOTALLY controllable. And it's lighter than an M4.

This toy is already in the hands of some of our guys in Afghanistan, and boy, did they made the right choice! Too bad they didn't had the 12" barrel to shift; the ARX-160 can shift from a 12" to a 16" barrel (the one installed) in seconds and without tools.

I have several pics of me with this toy; I'll be posting them around here in the next days. BTW, REMOV, when will you give a try to the new Polish 40mm revolver grenade launcher, the RGP-40? And what about the rumored "NEON", Polish OICW-alike?

So....Ummmmmm....where did you come up with that weird ass firing position? Anything with a decent recoil would knock you right over on your ass from that position. Just sayin is all.
