Default SIG 510 battle rifle

The SIG 510(AKA Sturmgewehr 57) "light machine gun" of a service rifle once issued to the entire Swiss Army. Still in active service but in limited numbers and popular as a target rifle.

The SIG 510-4, 7.62mm NATO calibre variant, Also at one time produced under licence by Beretta for export to Bolivia & Chile.

Could you quote your sources about the SIG 510-4 being made by Beretta? 'Cause I really doubt that it has ever happened.

This was only done with the 510-4 variant chambered in 7.62mm NATO but only for export purposes. 510-4 rifles have often had the top of the reciever stamped with "Ejercito De Chile". SIG and Berreta again later somewhat shared a design with the SIG 530 and AR70.

Much probably, Beretta ASSEMBLED the 510-4 rifles from parts made by SIG and imported from Switzerland; this was made to circumvent the tough military hardware export laws of Switzerland which still today forbid any direct export of Swiss military products or technologies to troublesome areas. That's why, for a certain amount of time, SIG SG-540 rifles were made in France by Manurhin: the ones made for military/LE export (not for French authorities use or for the civilian market) were actually assembled out of parts made in Switzerland.

The Chilean 510/4 were not made by Beretta. The only Beretta-SIG venture was the SIG Berettta 530 project. The Federal Export ban came in the 70s hence the SIG Manurhin and SIG Sauer ventures.

The StGw 57 is no more in service for a long time. How do I know? just from being member of the SSTP 1980-2000...

That -DID- seemed strange to me. In the Beretta museum, there's no StGw-57; if they had ever made one, they would have had it.
