Of course. Because in "history" only the first male son got everything of the heritage, including the house/castle, the family name and rank of nobilty, and the family properties. All the other sons and daughters had to find other ways around, not for faith or love of Country, but because it was their ONLY CHOICE. Must the same ONLY CHOICE why people today enlists. They either joined the military or became monks (the males), became nuns or married members of other wealthy, noble families (the females).

That doesn't explain why poor people's children were hardly represented, especially when there were a lot more of them in the world.

Take your time.

What I was talking about was how they were raised. Being second born son in a wealthy family hardly forced one into poverty, they still had massive advantages in the world, and even firstborns had to wait for someone to die do things in the meantime.

Because simply for poor people's children there was no way to join the religious orders, or to join the military (unless, obviously, if conscripts). The poor people's children were bound to become peasants, just like their family members. Their families fought to survive (and had to give to their Lord a significantly high percentage of their agricultural and breeding production), and NEEDED their sons to go to work in the fields and with the cattle already at a very young age (around 5). They couldn't allow themselves to loose them letting them become monks, or whatever. Not to mention that the poor people's sons could have never joined the military in high-rank positions (reserved to nobles). And, about the possibility of a poor peasants family daughter marrying a prince, well, it's fairytales only.

Of course. They became Knights and Generals, Arch-Bishops or Cardinals. Yet, they had not the title of nobilty of the family, nor they had the original richnesses of the family.
