Lightbulb AR-15s from Turkey.

After their line of 410-gauge, AR15-based T-14 semi-automatic shotguns, the Turkish manufacturer SAFIR ARMS has launched a 5'56x45mm/.223-Remington series of AR15-M16 rifles, the T-15 series, available either in semi-automatic (civilian) or select-fire (military/LE) variants. This probably has its roots in the recent Turkish military arsenal renewal; the Turks made no mistery, it makes a while now, that they wanted the M-16 to replace the locally license-manufactured G3 and HK-33 rifles in service; ultimately, the Mehmetçik-1 rifle was adopted, it being a locally license-manufactured (by the State factory MKE-Kurumu) version of the German HK-416 piston/op-rod driven rifle series. Another Turkish manufacturer, SARSILMAZ, had entered an agreement with Armalite, making the AR-24 pistols series for them and obtaining the manufacturing rights and capabilities for the M16/M4 series. I guess the thing ended up into nothing, I don't know how popular the Sarsilmaz/Armalite pistols are now in the US but the Turkish factory never started making ARs, at list they never made it public. Turkey's going to become the next M16 homeland? Well, guess allowing everybody to make it, epsecially a controversial Country as Turkey, is a good way to keep them out of terrorist hands... after all, that's why now if we (Italian or generally European civilians) want an US-built AR-15 sporting rifle must order it months in advance and obtain and End-User Certificate, and can no longer obtain mil-dot sights and collapsing stocks from the US: your Government says that Italian civilians aren't reliable, and that those weapons might end up in the hands of terrorists in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Gawd-only-knows where else. So, civilian ARs for Italian civilians: BAD. Military M-16s made under license in Turkey: NO PROBLEM.
