Just a question for Americans: how are firearms regulated in unincorporated territories of the United States of America such as the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, etc.? Is it possible there to obtain firearms, or are them "gun-free" territories? AFAIK (but I could be wrong) gun ownership in Puerto Rico is hard to obtain.

Nearly impossible most of the time. No rifles allowed at all on most of the islands. Few handguns... All pretty much at the local governments whim. I forget the legal thoery behind all this, but it's something along the lines of "the constitution only applies in states and incorporated territories" or somesuch bull. Their tax laws are curious too.
Having been to the virgin islands and PR many times, let me sum it up: Nice islands, but sucky people, government and means of life. Been there, done that, don't want to go back.

I don't know how strict it is, but I do know it's possible to own firearms on Guam, I have an ex from there whose father had a collection of some sort, apparently including military styled things. Systemwise it sounded more like a European nation, where you are allowed to own a variety of weapons, but you must have an ID card stating you are eligibile. They also have concealed carry available by the same means. So, not as free as I'd like, but there are worse situations than Guam.
I also had friends from Samoa, though I'm unsure what the situation is there. A lot more strict I believe.
