Default LWRC Infantry Automatic Rifle(IAR)

It may be a nice weapon, But why are the USMC replacing the FN Minimi with this thing?. Its just another M16 derivative but with a slightly heavier barrel and just fires from either a closed/open bolt depending on the fire modes(A la FG42). It was also featured on Future Weapons.

The Marines are NOT replacing the FN Minimi (M249-SAW). They are wishing to acquire an IAR, or Infantry Automatic rifle, as an intermediate weapon to provide firepower between the standard service rifle/carbine (M16/M4) AND the Section Automatic Weapon (M249-SAW). By the way, the Marines have been trying around to acquire such a weapon for a long time now, and all they were able to do was to pick up some M16-A1 and M16-A2 HBAR even BEFORE the M249-SAW went on full-scale adoption (they wanted something intermediate to the M-60, back then... never happy, dont' they?). BTW, I don't seriously think that they will ever end up actually adopting and deploying an IAR.
