It has come to my attention that, after about 5 years of joint development with FNH-USA and an enormous spending of taxpayers money (and just when FNH-USA launched the "Heat-Adaptive Modular Rifle, or HAMR), the USSOCOM decided to CANCEL THE FN Mk-16 "SCAR-L" PROGRAM.
Is the road paved for the ACR?

Jesus. At this stage, I've lost track of just what new rifle the military wants to use to replace the M-16/M-4 rifles. It's all like Goldilocks now - "Too hot, too cold, just righ- no, it's not".

Easy boys.
The Mk16 procurement was canceled in order to use the remaining project funds to purchase more Mk17 SCARs instead. SOCOM has plenty of 5.56mm rifles, but not enough 7.62x51mm battle rifles for Afghanistan. |

Yeah. OFFICIALLY. A nice excuse to cancel procurement of a weapon that didn't met the canons for which it had been developed (last but not least caliber interchangeability on the field, which the SCAR hasn't but the ACR has...) ![]()
