Lightbulb Myanmar EMER K-1 bull-pup assault rifle.

If you remember, around Y2001 there was much hype about the fact that Burma (or Myanmar, or whatever) had developed its own bull-pup assault weapon system, the EMER-K1 (EMER standing for "Electro-Mechanical and Engineering Corps", and the K in K1 standing for the Burmese military for what the X stands in U.S. military denomination). Nobody seemed to know what it looked like, although many talked about "influence of the TAVOR, the Singaporean SAR-21, the British SA-80 and the American M-16".

Well, here is a pic of the EMER-K1 weapon system. The model with the slimmer handguard is the "assault rifle variant"; the one with bulkier handguard is the "light machinegun variant", although no built-in bipod is provided (it was planned that it would have used the bipods from the BA-series rifles, locally license-manufactured HK-G3 weapons, already in inventory).

The weapon was reported in service with Burmese Special Forces, as well as with troops guarding pipelines along the borders with China and India, and the "Yadana" pipeline project belonging to the French TOTAL group. Appearently, the weapon was (or still is, if it's in service) plagued with frequent jammings and other issues. No wonder; this looks like a rather crude copy of the SA-80 one would come out with trying to manufacture a high-technology bull-pup weapon using crude stainless steel stampings machineries like the ones normally used to make AKs.

Arrow Re: Myanmar EMER K-1 bull-pup assault rifle.

The Myanmar’s Army EMER (Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Corps) also created their own assault rifle family based on the export model of the Chinese QBZ-95 bullpup assault rifle known as the EMER K1 family.
