Are you talking about the G-41, or the HK-53? The G-41 was an improved G3A3/HK33 taking M16 magazines, probably the finest assault rifle of the world, EVER. It went out of production because fine quality also rises price, and for the price of a G-41 one could buy a handful of M-16, so there was no match (the G-41 is still the main assault rifle for the Italian COMSUBIN Navy Raiders anyway, HECKLER&KOCH put the gun out of production but still guarantees spare parts and technical assistance through FRANCHI).

The HK-53 is instead basically what you obtain when you shrink an HK-33 to MP5 dimensions. It's a .5'56x45mm-NATO subcarbine, used by military Special Forces and Police SWAT units in several European countries (UK, Italy, Germany and France nominally), and by Police SWAT teams in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
